Just look at that: beautiful multi-colored silicone cookware, Zing!, with excellent packaging design. Even more, a streamlined brand that gives the products personality and adds a sense of youthful playfulness. United Kingdom-based designers Stickman Designs centered their packaging and branding design around the fun tagline:
Add a touch of Zing to your cooking and a splash of color to your kitchen.
Stickman Designs had several goals in developing the concept behind the packaging, branding, and marketing of Zing. Consistency, uniqueness, and upscale desirability (is that a term? Well, it is now). Did Stickman achieve these goals?
Uniqueness
A fun speech bubble declaring the cooking tool, such as “I’m a Spoon!” or “I’m a Colander!” was used as a unique marketing tool that personified the cookware. The speech bubble is mostly a square shape, easy to place on any piece of packaging and easy to identify, whether there is just an exclamation point in the bubble or a declaration.
Check.
Consistency
The speech bubble was incorporated into the logo — beautifully executed without seeming too cheesy. If I saw the set of cookware separately, I would be able to identify the individual colander or measuring spoons as part of this brand.
Consistency, check.
Upscale Desirability
Stickman was commissioned to create an upmarket brand for these silicon multi-colored cookware. While I wouldn’t have identified this as “upscale” (but what do I know, I’m not the target market), I definitely give them a check for desirability. The beautiful minimalist design is sleek and achieves the end goal: making the product desirable to a large market. I’d call this branding and packaging design a success. Especially considering I am trying to restrain myself from buying myself a set!
