It’s one thing to buy a pre-packaged LEGO set to create your replica of Hogwarts – it’s a whole new level of wonder when you create a mini LEGO replica of an entire neighborhood. That’s exactly what Brooklyn-based artist Jonathan Lopes did. Brick by brick, he recreated familiar scenes that recall his daily walk to the subway in his neighborhood, Boerum Hill. In the photos below, you’ll be able to see incredibly detailed renditions of a flower shop on Hoyt Street, city buses, street sweepers, train tracks, and more. Every bit of detail is made with LEGOs – Lopes doesn’t alter the blocks at all when recreating landmarks – no carving, stickers or paint. As Lopes told the Daily News, “It’s challenging to achieve certain aesthetics with the limitations of the brick. I try to get it as real looking as possible.”

While this is technically a small scale replica, the neighborhood is a huge undertaking, having taken over his 400-square-foot living room.

Lopes’s LEGO obsession began with his very first Star Wars LEGO kit 10 years before. Becoming bored with the rudimentary offerings of these LEGO models, he began creating replicas of famous constructions. Check out more photos of the Brooklyn neighborhood replica below:
