Norwegian architecture firm Haugen/Zohar has created an outdoor fireplace that brings a whole new meaning to having a bonfire. Using leftover materials from another construction sight (hence the short pieces of wood making up the entire structure), the firm built a beautiful, rounded outdoor fireplace that is 5.2 by 4.5 meters with a concrete floor/bench system and a fire pit in the center.  The structure is comprised of 80 layered circles with different radii, each made out of 28 pieces of pine with oak separators, all spaced differently to let natural light in and maximize airflow. The fireplace also features a double curved sliding door. Integrated into a  children’s playground area, their outdoor fireplace is the perfect camp creation – instead of sitting in the cold around a tiny fire pit, you can sit inside the fireplace itself and keep warm. The architects say their intention behind the fireplace was for it to be used for playing and storytelling, and by the looks of it, they nailed it. Not to mention, the night time view from outside the fireplace? Totally breathtaking.
