At first glance, these modular shelves look understated. We’ve seen space saving furniture like this already. What’s so revolutionary about this furniture design? You just have to look below.
This “typical” modular bookcase surprisingly houses four chairs and two tables that become a dining table when placed together. Here you have it: an independently functioning bookcase that can transform your tiny living space — and only when you need it! Designed by Orla Reynolds, a recent graduate of the Dublin Institute of Technology who enjoys designing multi-functional furniture. Truly functional and beautiful design, with a touch of playfulness that can bring life into a drab city apartment!
What is truly lovely about this design is that it can be built to fit your design aesthetic. Don’t want a square bookcase? You can spit up the shelving and make something truly your own.
It’s easy enough to figure out why Ms. Reynolds named her furniture design project “As if from nowhere…” The identically shaped chairs can be placed in the bookcase interchangeably, a great feature for people who like to change things up. The individual modules are easy to stack in a unique way. And even the chair cushions are discreet!
According to Ms. Reynolds:
It is intended for small living spaces or for those who wish to cater to the unexpected guest.
And once you no longer need the extra chairs…
You can just put it away. Simple as that.
A truly inspired design by Orla Reynolds!
